About the Ward Acting Studio
New York, New York
Wendy Ward founded the Ward Acting Studio in 1996 in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City; immediately it became known as one of the City's top private studios. Additionally, the Ward Acting Studio was one of only several venues devoted to formal Meisner training. Ms. Ward has taught upwards of 4,000 actors and produced over 70 productions, one third of which were original pieces devised by Ms. Ward in association with the Ward Theatre Company.
After commuting back and forth between New York and Philadelphia while teaching the Meisner technique to sophomores at The University of the Arts, Ms. Ward moved her acting studio to Philadelphia. While in residence there, Ms. Ward re-populated her company with actors from Macedonia, Germany and Australia who traveled to Pennsylvania specifically to train with Wendy and perform alongside her American ensemble members.
In 2010, Australia granted Ms. Ward its coveted Distinguished Talent Visa, offering her permanent residency and the opportunity to move her studio to Melbourne. She renovated a warehouse space at the Footscray Cotton Mills to serve as both classroom and performance space for the Ward Theatre Company, which performed three of its signature pieces to unanimous acclaim.
Between 2010 and 2014, Ms. Ward traveled back and forth between Melbourne and New York City before eventually moving back to the States and settling in North Carolina.
Durham, North Carolina
Ms. Ward opened her Durham Studio in November of 2014 to bring a New York standard of professional actor training to the Triangle. The Ward Theatre Company quickly established itself as one of the Triangle's premier independent theaters with its productions of Jacuzzi, I Wish You A Boat, Revival, Honour and The Mound Builders. The Studio welcomes actors of all levels and includes students from around the world as online participants thanks to sophisticated video conferencing technology.
