Advanced Performance Workshop
Designed to develop skills under the pressures of performance, this robust program helps our students catch up to the competition -- actors with more performance experience under their belt. Immediately upon completion of their Meisner training and sometimes concurrent with it, our students begin performing in productions, quickly gaining experience and developing the confidence they will need to pursue work upon leaving our studio.

The APW better prepares actors for the professional environment by developing better work habits, stronger stage presence and by teaching the actor how to work independently and at a quicker pace. Students learn to research a role on their own, strengthen their vocal and movement skills and may even become collaborators in the development of the script.

Please note that the Ward Studio APW program is also available to actors from outside our acting program. If you were trained elsewhere but wish to gain performance experience in our Advanced Performance Workshop, contact the studio to set up an interview/audition. (Initially, two contrasting monologues will be requested however the studio may request that a scene be performed at a later date.) Because APW productions are created for the specific students selected to participate, you may also suggest scripts that you are interested in. You will be asked to provide a copy for studio staff to review. If the script is appropriate for the wider range of actors involved in the APW program, it may be included on the production schedule.

Actors involved in the APW program, must be available on Saturdays (and sometimes Sundays) for ensemble rehearsals and at other times during the week based on the director and participating actors' schedules. APW productions typically run for two weekends, depending on the size of the project. Frequently, one-person and two-person shows are first performed in a "recital" format and then later are given "main stage" status for a longer run. Company shows typically run for four months time. For more information, contact the studio directly to set up your interview/audition.
